So we decided to leave everything behind!
We're moving 150 miles from Birmingham to beautiful Cornwall. We know, what on earth are we thinking and how are we going to make this work?
Right, so, erm, what’s going on?
Okay, I know you all are going to think we have truly lost the plot this time but let’s have a little look at what’s lead us to this point.
We have absolutely loved our Brummie life so far. We’ve both lived in Birmingham for well over 15 years, some of that before we knew each other but the most part together as a team. It has been truly life changing and a wonderful home. We had our first dates in town, we met each others extensive Birmingham-based friendship groups, we got married, bought our first house, opened our beloved shop and had our two babies in this epic city. But that’s just it, it’s (in our eyes) the best city, and we want to try out a new way of living. City-less.
Yeah but the babies will sound so different?!
This is genuinely the first thing my neighbour’s dad said when I told them we were moving out. I know I’m going to be the slightly odd mum my boys’ friends’ think is weird for saying ‘Top’ or ‘Fab’ or asking how good their gambol skills are. But look, I’m ready to be embarrassing (that’s mostly what being a parent to young adults is, I hear) and now I’ve just got a whole new chapter of material to draw from!
Enough of the sentiment, where are you going to live and how are you actually going to do this?
Right, well yes, there are quite a few big questions to answer and figure out. We have sorted (we think) somewhere to live, somewhere for our eldest to go to nursery and school - because the horror of school applications is something we have had to figure out from afar - and we have secured half of our household’s income. There will be much more on the specifics of all of that in our upcoming posts so stick around and subscribe for all the goss!
No, you’ve not thought about the Studio!
Yep, this is a heartbreaking part of moving out. We will be selling our house and our beloved art studio. However, we did make it ourselves from scratch and as creative people, it’s in our DNA to carve out a special making space no matter where we live. We will be taking you along with us as we re-establish our creative practices in a new place and help you build yours.
And this is all going to be on Substack?
Yes my friend, welcome to your new obsession - Substack! It’s such an amazing and exciting space on the internet. We have become completely addicted to the many publications we follow on this platform and we can’t wait to bring our own little community of Folks over here too. It’s a great place for us to host our workshops, engage with our creative community and tell our new and exciting story.
So see you soon for the next instalment of Look + Sea!
